Finals Week

Finals week has come upon us. Thankfully I only have one exam to worry about and get back into reading full time between catching up with friends and working. With classes coming to an end, friends are staring to come back home for the holidays. One of the best things about winter break is seeing my friends that go to school out of state. One of my closest friend is coming home after a few years of being away. He lives in Seattle, but his mom is lives near me. So I am pretty excited to catch up with him. I am also really excited to get back into reading during the break and catching up on shows that have been sitting in my DVR for months now.

Besides all that the main reason I made time to write this post. A few weeks ago I started The Sentinel War series by Shannon K. Butcher. Tonight I finished the third installment Running Scared and have moved on to Living Nightmare. Already each book has consumed me; I truly did not think that I would enjoy this series. It has all the things that I look for but the actual story was something that I thought I wouldn’t get into. I was wrong thankfully and have been inhaling each book so far. Each couple has kept my interest on different levels. What I enjoy about Butcher that I find only a few authors can do is when they begin to start introducing other characters. Butcher makes me fall for future couples even before I get to their book. For example in the first book with Drake and Helen, she introduced Zach and Lexi. The third book was their story and from the build up before I was consumed when reading and couldn’t put the book down. Now I am on book four and the hero is Madoc, who has lost his last leaf already and has been hiding it for months now. Our heroine is Nika, who has had her mind shattered and has been recovering for years now and has barely made a dent. Of course this all changes when Madoc enters and she can feel herself start to actually get better. The problem though is that Madoc has feeling, but doesn’t think that she can actually save him. All of this has been building up for two books now. Needless to say I am excited to get into it. The most important thing about these books though is the hero. I always for the heroes that fall in love the hardest; the ones that you know need it the most. And every hero so far has deserved it more than the last. Now that I am at Madoc I can’t wait to see how things play out. Nika is already there and knows that she needs Madoc, Madoc though is not really at that point there and I have a feeling that this might be a struggle. Either way I have a feeling that Madoc might become one of the few heroes that I will always fall back on and become a favorite.

what i've been up to

Burning Alive (Book 1) Shannon k Butcher

Finding the Lost (Book 2) Shannon K Butcher
So I know it's been awhile since I last made a proper post. If school wasn't such a pain I would be on top of my game with giving proper for each book that I've read within like the past month. I have been reading every chance I get. It seems to be the only real escape that I have nowadays. Thankfully though I only have a couple more weeks before classes are over and then finals being. of course with all that free time i'll be working and reading. So anyways the book that I just finished was Burning Alive by Shannon K. Butcher. Now when I first heard about the series i didn't think I was going to like it. also it didn't help that when I first picked up the book I was coming off a high from Dianne Duvall's newest book Darkness Rises (which was AMAZING!). Back to Butcher, so I was a little worried that it wasn't going to be that good. It did take a few chapters to get me going but eventually I did. I fell in love the connection between the men. Of course I always fall in love with a group of men that have a deep connection and sense of honor. I was reading every chance I got, in between class, during my break at work, at home in between doing homework. My friends at this point are used to me when i get sucked into a book. They know that once I'm in in gone until I finish it. The main concept is demons and different sectors of creatures. The main one Theronai, who are some badass warriors. Their downfall is that the live a long time, but eventually their lifeline (which is a tree that acts as a tattoo) eventually starts to lose it leaves, when the last leaf falls the being the downward spiral into insanity and death. The only chance they have is finding a Theronai female that can channel the power that is stored in the males. The thing though is that the women were slaughtered centuries ago and the men lost hope of finding any female to buffer their pain. Of course in comes in Helen, the first to be found in centuries. She is pretty cool, at first she is weak and you think that she is going to be useless but in the end she proves herself and turns out to be even more than you expected in the beginning. With Helen in the picture there is now hope for the men that there are more out there just like her and so begins the quest for some of the men. In the first book there isn't much plot development, you do find out though that the enemy is trying to break loose and roam on earth freely. Which of course is the main reason for most enemies in books. besides that I am on to the second installment Finding the Lost which is about Paul and Andra, and Andra has a good understanding of what goes bump in the night. I am hoping that since she has an understanding that she will be pretty badass and stubborn. OH before I forget the main concept that I like when it comes to the couples is that once they touch they begin the process of being bonded, but the women has the choice to leave when she wants and the women are considered treasures within the community.

Until next time safe travels
